Keep the Wilderness in the Wild

Posted by Dalesh Kowlesar on March 31st, 2010

Many of us love the outdoors, rugged terrain, toms of trees and bushes, a very natural almost untouched by man look, where our surroundings are concerned. This look is very easily attainable – all you have to do is sit back and never do a single thing, and you will have your wilderness look construct itself. When you are talking about your family cabin up in the Drakensburg or near Lake St. Lucia – if this is the look you want – no problem, no one will really care.

If, however you find yourself striving for this look for your suburban home – you are headed for disaster!

Forget about the neighbors who are going to breath fire at you every time you bump into each other at the grocery store, and thing about what this look really says about your home and your family – probably something along the lines of you all being direct descendants of neanderthals.

Yes, nature is god created, and we should not destroy it – but I’m sure God intended us to care for and maintain nature.

If your son needs a new tennis ball every time it lands amidst your overgrown lawn, because it simply cannot be found with out a search party, then it is time for you to take a drive down to the local hardware store and pick up a lawn mower – a beautifully crafted machine that mechanically trims your lawn down to the generally accepted length.

Your hedges need to be trimmed every now and again. Dirt which wanders onto your property needs to be picked up and not just left to decompose in the hope of it providing your plants with rich wonderful manure. Not all plants are equal – and this is something you need to understand – some plants are parasites/aliens meaning that they are not indigenous to our lands – these plants and trees need to be removed as they deprive other indigenous plants and trees of water and other nutrients.

If you want your home to look beautiful and welcoming on the outside, you are going to have to trim your lawn regularly, pull out unwanted weeds, plant some flowers and other plants across your yard at different areas of interest, install some garden ornaments and water features and in a couple of weeks you will find that you have a beautiful yard and your neighbors wont be breathing fire at you for destroying the image of the neighbor as a whole.
