An Incredible Kitchen
Posted by Dalesh Kowlesar on May 23rd, 2010The kitchen is by far one of the most crucial parts of any home, it is the place where our daily meals are prepared, it is the source of our continued existence and is an area of the home which is meant to feel comforting, relaxing, warm and inviting.
A kitchen is not a ‘for show’ item, where we should be afraid of so much as leaving behind a single crumb out of its place, a kitchen needs to be lived in and show evidence of life. But at the same time, this doesn’t mean you do not have to take pride in the style and appearance of your kitchen, it simply means that your kitchen should be practical and 100% user-friendly.
Just as with every other area of your home, every little detail counts and contributes toward the fuller picture, with even the tiniest details such as the cupboard handles, making a substantial difference to your kitchen. When you think about decorating your kitchen there are a few things you need to consider before you get down to tearing down your old units to install new ones.
You need to analyse your existing kitchen setup and see what are the positives and negatives, what elements do you have currently which you do not require or seldom, if at all, make use of – things such as wine racks, vegetable racks etc. If there are any elements you do not make use of, for example if your wine rack lays permanently bare, for whatever reason, then you should most probably ensure that you do not waste resources by installing another wine rack when you renovate your kitchen. You also need to look around your kitchen to see what you are missing, perhaps you do not have sufficient space to keep your pots and pans within a range of easy access, iin that case perhaps maybe you should consider an overhead hanger above your stove area, to store some of your pot, pans and utensils within an arms reach.
You need to pay attention to some smaller things as well, such as the faucet – it would be best if you have a mixer. As opposed to separate spouts for hot and cold water. Your light fitting design and style is also important, it would be rather silly to have a designer up-market kitchen and still have ancient, standard light fittings.
The lighting in your kitchen is extremely important, if you do not get much sunlight in your kitchen, perhaps maybe re-position your windows or maybe use larger windows, if however that will not be of any help, then you will need to ensure that your light fittings are able to provide sufficient lighting, also you may want to make sure they are on the energy saving side, as if you have a kitchen with little natural light, you are going to have to be using electrical lighting substantially more.
The floors in you kitchen are very important, it would not at all be advisable to have a carpeted floor in your kitchen, with the amount if spills taking place on a daily basis, you floor will be ruined within a couple months leaving your kitchen looking terribly unsightly. A tiled or wooden floor would be ideal – but tile would be better than wood, if in the unfortunate situation of there being significant water standing on the floor as a result of a leaking fridge you are unaware of or something of the like, the wood will eventually start soaking the water up and get spoilt.
The colour scheme of your kitchen is very important. Do not for a minute thing about going monotonall having the same colour floor, walls and units – that looks terrible. You need to let your colours mix together and give your kitchen a life of its own. Your appliances, if you can afford it should all be metallic, it looks smart, elegant and will fit in with any them/scheme. You need to ensure that the different items in your kitchen all mix well together, such as the stove, fridge, dishwasher.
A kitchen should be a warm, inviting area in your home, where your family can spend time with each other, bonding as they prepare Sunday lunch, or enjoy each others company over breakfast.
